Estienne, a quick-witted peasant with the sharpest tongue in southern France, is on the run from a looming crusade. But not to worry, he’s a clever fellow. He can wriggle his way out of anything. Until he’s ambushed in the hills and stranded in the castle of the mysterious Lord Helias. Estienne quickly becomes entangled in the castle’s secrets, the greatest of which is Helias himself.

Since Helias caught the thirst for blood, he has been torn between the human he was and the monster he’s become. His battle against his own nature is only made harder by the unfairly beautiful and dangerously curious peasant now camped in his bed chamber. Helias has never been so drawn to a man. The problem is, he’s never been so hungry for one either.

Their time together binds them closer as Estienne grows to love the very things about Helias that Helias fears will destroy them both. When Helias’ secret risks being exposed to the world and the castle ceases to be a safe haven for Estienne, the two must decide what they’re willing to sacrifice to be together.
